Who this is for
You have a short answer on screen from the lines you typed. This lesson doesn't ask the chat anything new. You check its words against the paper in your hand.
The emergency brake
- The answer looks confident and you feel rushed? Put the paper on the table. The chat does not get to confirm its own answer.
- You want to ask “is that right?” Don't. Find it on the paper, or cross it out.
- Closed this tab?
Ctrl+Shift+T(Mac:Cmd+Shift+T).
Practice on a planted answer
About 4 min
The worksheet prints an answer with two things the chat added. The paper for this practice is the same fake recycling notice from PH-01. Find both additions before you touch your own answer.
1) Put recycling out Thursday by 6 a.m. starting November 3.
2) Bulk items need a $15 sticker.
3) If you miss pickup, you may be fined $50 under township rules.
$50 and township rules aren't on the paper. Cross them out. What the paper actually says about missing pickup: nothing. That's MISSING.
Your answer will be worded differently. That's normal. Check it has the same parts: each date and dollar is on the paper, or it is crossed out.
Try this
On the worksheet, circle the two added things in the practice answer and write MISSING next to the fine.
You should see: $50 and “township rules” marked. November 3, Thursday, 6 a.m., and $15 stay, because those words are on the notice.
Check your own answer
About 6 min
- Put a finger on each date, time, dollar amount, and place in the answer from PH-02.
- Find that same word on your paper.
- Not on the paper → the chat added it → cross it out. The paper wins.
- If a whole line was added, cross out the whole line. Don't edit a made-up line into a smaller one.
Ask the chat “did you add anything?” It will often say no, in a confident voice, and still be wrong.

Success check
- Found both added things in the practice answer
- Every date and dollar in my answer is on my paper, or crossed out
Common failure modes
| What happened | What to do |
|---|---|
| A dollar amount sounds familiar but isn't on this page | Cross it out. Familiar is not the same as printed here. |
| The place name is close, but not the words on the paper | Cross it out and keep the paper's words. |
| You can't find the answer on screen anymore | Open the side list and click that chat. Don't start a new one to “recreate” the facts. |
Stop line
The chat does not get a second chance to explain a date or a dollar. If it isn't on the paper, it isn't yours to act on.
Brake: Stop · New chat, if you already typed a follow-up. Then check the paper.
Trust the paper. If the paper itself is unclear, the next lesson uses the number printed on it — not a number from the chat.
